On Monday September 9, 2019 USA Swimming announced the names of the swimmers who have been selected for the 2018-2019 Scholastic All-American Team. To qualify an athlete must have completed 9th to 12th grade, maintained a 3.5 GPA, and met a 2018 Winter Junior National time standard. Jr National Recap We took 8 Jr National qualifiers(Vlad Elizarov, Yulia Groysman, Chris Harig, Nathan Hayes, Taylor Kabacy, Kevin Kyi, Tyler Lu, and Hannah Weissman) to the meet at Stanford which was more athletes than we had last year including 3 athletes that had never been to the meet before. This meet we more than doubled our score from last year. Everyone that went to the meet last year placed higher than they did the year before. We placed 21st at the meet. PNS Sr Champs Top 16 Point Scorers Sr Champs involved lots of best times, new cuts, and a team getting behind each other. It was awesome to see an athlete go for their cut and then get it. What made it great was seeing their teammates rally behind them and celebrate it with them once they achieved it. Swimming at the IE VS Apple Capital Open SMAC’s 11-12 mixed 400 medley relay established a new National Age Group record. Shaw Nishizawa (12), Ben Scott (12), Ella Jablonski (12), and Moira Williams (12) combined for a 4:49.55 taking nearly six seconds off the benchmark time. Mixed relays have only been recognized for National Age Group records since September 2018 and this is the first time the benchmark has been eclipsed. Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet 2019 Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club athlete’s went to Vancouver, BC last weekend to compete at the Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet. It was a good early season meet where our athletes got to race some fast competition.This meet featured the US and the Canadian Jr National team as well as athletes from the National team.
